Oscar D. Hensley Jr., age 75, of St. Albans, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 19, 1943 in Charleston, son of the late Oscar Sr. and Margaret Manning Hensley. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Joanne Hensley Dickson; and in-laws, Ray and Claudine Pennington.

He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1964-1968, stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, AK. He retired from Clearon Chemical in 2003 after 30 years as a general mechanic or as he preferred "mechanical genius" his self-appointed title. Oscar loved riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family and pulling the perfect practical joke. He loved to make people laugh. Oscar was a devoted family man, he deeply loved his wife, Brenda and daughter, Amie, providing a constant source of support, affection, laughter and entertainment.

Oscar is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Pennington Hensley; daughter, Amie Hensley Dutey (Jim) of Pittsburgh, PA; sister, Shirley Hensley Segers (George) of Killen, AL; brother-in-law, Mark Pennington of Hurricane; granddaughter, Katie Van Winkle (Jarod) of Columbus, OH, great - grand-daughter, Alexa Van Winkle of Columbus, OH; and nine nieces and nephews (Cathey, Archie, Joseph, Sarah, Erin, Megan, Hanna, Jack and John). The family wishes to give special thanks to Oscar's caregiver, Raina Burdette, for all of her kindness, consideration and dedication to the family.

A service to honor the life of Oscar will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 21, at Snodgrass Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow with military honors at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State VA Cemetery, Institute, WV.

The family will receive friends and family from noon until service time on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Huntington's Disease Foundation, P.O. Box 912, Salado, TX 76571 or the Kanawha / Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311.
