Glen A Knapp

Glen Knapp, a long-time resident of Charleston, West Virginia, and Sarasota, Florida, passed away February 5, 2019. Recently, he has been living in Kennesaw, Georgia, to be closer to family.

Glen is survived by his son, Matt (Lee Ann) of Acworth, Georgia; his daughter, Amy (Kevin) of Woodstock, Georgia; his son, JB of Washington, D.C.; and his grandchildren, Abby, Danny, Jack, and Jake. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Roxie, and his beloved wife of 25 years, Dee.

Knapp was a 1962 graduate of Charleston High School and a 1966 graduate of West Virginia State University. While a student at WVSU, Knapp was President of the Student Body. When working in the Charleston community, Governor Hulett Smith appointed Knapp to the Board of Commerce of WVSU.

Knapp was active in community affairs for 10 years. He was on the Executive Staff of the Charleston area Chamber of Commerce. Knapp was also active in government affairs and was a selected member of the West Virginia Republican State Committee.

Knapp was well known both locally and regionally for producing the Eastern Mining and Industrial Exposition in Charleston. Over time, he grew the mining show attracting equipment manufacturers and attendees worldwide.

In 1997, during the administration of Cecil Underwood, Knapp was appointed to serve as Assistant to the Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation.

 

A celebration of life will be 12 p.m. Monday at Bollinger Funeral Home, Charleston, with Pastor Jesse Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.
