Comments:

We have lived in Michigan longer than in any other state but have enjoyed life in all the places we've lived--Kalamazoo (MI), northern Indiana, Columbus, and Cincinnati.

Immediately after CHS, however, I worked for a couple of years as secretary to the Trust Investment Officer at Kanawha Valley Bank, taking night classes at Morris Harvey. I then spent a couple of years working at the International Bank for Reconstruction & Development in Washington, DC, a block from the White House. After Max finished graduate school in Virginia, we were married and I finished my degree in English. I've led a busy life, mostly full of teaching, first as high school teacher (Madeira High School, Cincinnati), then finishing the Ph.D. at Michigan State, and eventually becoming Professor of English and Director, Third Coast Writing Project (National Writing Project site) at Western Michigan University, a role I held until I retired January, 2011.

School Story:

Elementary school in Dunbar, W.Va., then Roosevelt Jr. High, and Charleston High. College: Morris Harvey College (University of Charleston, did intern teaching in English at George Washington HS)
Graduate School: M.A., Western Michigan University, and Ph.D. in English, Michigan State University
